No, he’s still scary

Because Mike Huckabee makes vaguely populist noises from time to time, plays bass, and isn’t constantly advocating for the invasion of Iran, there is a tendency among liberals and centrists to view him as less blatantly offensive than the rest of the Republican party’s offerings.

Oh really? Here’s Governor Huckabee earlier this week:

“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,” Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. “But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”

So, presumably, we would want to start with the First Amendment? You know, the part where it says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”

Great idea, considering that there’s such an extensive history of governments based on a specific religion working out well. Then again, as long as we all believe in the same god as Huckabee, I’m sure it will all work out just fine.
